I completely agree!! Taxidermy is an horrible, disgusting, vile thing... I don't know how people can do this...

I have to say it depends upon how you go about it. If you use rare and endangered animals then I'm against it, but sometimes it can look good. What I am against is dropping half a shark in a tank of formaldehyde and selling it for millions.

I can't tolerate taxidermy that kill animals only to use them as an object, as a toy, as an ornament... they are live creatures, damn!!

No, e tantopiù se ti riferisci ai vari plush di animali veri che vanno tanto ultimamente su DA: per me non è arte ma un vile commercio di pellicce In quel caso vengono appositamente ordinate pelli (e quindi uccisi animali) per farne dei giocattoli per bimbiminkia... Mi ero già espresso nelle varie discussioni qui e sul forum, e (ovviamente) rimango della stessa idea! Anche "solo" vedere animali impagliati in musei ecc mi fa molta impressione e tristezza... preferisco vederli vivi oppure filmati, fotografati... e disegnati

If it is used to honour the animal, then yes. Same for humans. There is a man that took the body of his wife and his horse and took away their skin, covered the muscle in wax, and mounted them together as a statue--out of love.

To kill the animal for the sole purpose of mounting is disrespectful and a disgrace. I can't stand that. But if part of the animal is used, such as the meat, and you come from a background that respects nature, and you want to remember the creature, then it's okay I think. Same thing as taking the hide to use as a blanket imo.

I open that poll because I know someone that on deviantART sell dead animals (usually she kills them for this) as stupid toys!! and people is happy! people tells that it's ART!!! And I can't tolerate it...

I know a couple of artists that do taxidermy, but all of the animals they receive are already dead--most of them are all accidents. Caught in fences, hit and run, shot as a pest, etc. When an animal is killed this way I think it's okay to remember them by erecting their pelts on a false body; it gives them a second life.

It's horrible to go out and kill them yourself and then set it up and sell it... that's just horrible. I would hope karma got this person and did something awful to them. :/
