Tutorial part 2 by makangeni Tutorial part 2 by makangeni
The second part of my tutorial.

I use Open Canvas, but I think that this tutorial would work also using Photoshop.
If something is not clear, you can ask me here, I'll try to explain better the difficult parts (if there are).
Tell me also if there are grammatical errors, english is not my language.
If you want, you can link here the paintings you do using this tutorial.

Thanks for looking!

This is not tracing, nor photomanipulation.
I copied the photo reference, this is free hand digital art.

I do have a question..what kind of brush do you use??

I don't use anymore that program, but I can say that I usually use only the normal brushes, not downloaded custom brushes. The brush should be set with "shape dynamics" and "other dynamics" (if you use photoshop).
but you can simply try what you have and see what you prefer :)

Thanks! I do use the defaults, sorry I meant to say do you turn down the opacity when drawing out your fur??

no, opacity of the fur level is 100%, I just press down less or more on the tablet depending on what I want to achieve

greatful that you went through the trouble of making it. It's been 2 years since I drew my last full body wolf, and as good I was, I was still far from perfect. Plus the digital fur painting has always been hard on me. This will help me a whole lot. Thanks.

wait so you make many layers of fur? intermediate, dark then light?

I do it all the fur in one layer, I do in a separate layer only the bright light fur

i get what you mean but i meant do you go over the fur many times?like draw the fur for the head, then over that you draw again with the darker color, then another in a light color?

yes, I do. I don't paint all the details in only one time.
it's like I do many layers without actually creating them in the programme, I don't know if I was clear...

thanks!
all the pictures you can find in my gallery are digital or traditional art, I do not photomanipulate and I do not trace.
To do this I copied the photo reference but it is free hand art :)

thanks! yes, I think it was and hours go fast when I draw so it's not a problem :) I don't paint all the picture in one time, obviously, I usually stay on it for about 1-2 hours per time (sometimes also less than an hour).

Oh cool. I just can't let the picture be if I haven't finished it... Sometimes I draw like 6 h at time 'cause I just can't let it be unfinished. :'D I should prob learn to continue them later.

wow o_o I rarely stay on a picture for more than 3 hours!
if it's digital art its better to take a break to make the eyes relax (I think this thing is true also for traditional art).

Yea, but computer's light does kill eyes easily. :'/ But it would be good to keep some breaks. I might keep some 5 to 10 min breaks while drawing but I found out that it's really hard to continue the pic on the other day. Sorry, my english sucks. :'D
